Requiem

"Citizens of New Terra rejoice! For this is an era of peace and prosperity never before seen by the empires of Man! Even as we fled Earth, its ashen soil eroding before us, we never imagined that we would arrive at this. Paradise! Just fifty years after our journey, we had achieved so much. I ask that every man, woman and child give thanks to those brave souls that set us on this journey, though many have left us, let us never forget their sacrifices and brave action as we move forward into an era of advancement and progression never before imaginable by mankind!"
~President Jeremiah Harlock, Founder's Day speech, 2120

2065, a group of scientists discover the presence of a wave of energy heading for Sol. Unsure of what its composition may be, feelings of mixed eagerness and worry are adequately submitted in a report to the United KIngdom's government.

2066, Seth Harlock, Bethany White and Issac Whitfield pool their collective fortunes into funding a deep space vessel to carry fifty thousand people. News Media refers to the project as the most foolish expenditure of money in decades. Seth Harlock begins to identify and send invitations to those who pass a rigorous screening project. No genetic problems, No history of illness in prior three generations, Physical and intellectual prowess are given high priority.

2069, Panic erupts as the news of the waves destructive power reaches the public attention. Issac Whitfield offers 500 seats to a lottery, with the stipulation that participating in a riot or protest is grounds for disqualification.

2070, Prosperity is launched just days before the wave comes to earth. They remain in range to watch their home incinerate, billions remaining on planet die. The ship slips into sub-space in order to travel between folds of space. The light of Sol is extinguished.

2071, all 500 lottery seat holders die of mysterious illness, regular medical checkups become mandatory. The White Rule.

Not everyone in New Terra approves of the "prosperity", criminals, the chronically ill, or anyone with a genetic abnormality is considered a threat to the order and is subject to "assessment". No one ever seems to return from the White facility where they are taken.

You are an outcast, hiding away, keeping your face off the cameras. Death awaits you if you get caught. But you are part of something larger than yourself, you are part of a group dedicated to destabilizing and overthrowing this paradise.

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances... Some are just much better than others.
